Hobby to profession - The angler

Karsten G., 47, is responsible for operations in an electronically controlled, "chaotic" high-bay warehouse. You know, those giant boxes, dark inside, but driven by ghostly hands, rail-guided forklifts move in and out of the pallets. Data processing programs ensure optimized routes and times. No problem for Karsten G. - as far as the technology and the processes are concerned. After all, he has been working there for 12 years, helped to build up the high-bay warehouse and, above all, its electronic inner workings, and then rose to the position of manager. However, there are increasing problems in the large order-picking hall, where 23 employees plus frequent temporary staff are regularly occupied, above all, with correctly assembling and loading the deliveries of goods. Karsten G. develops his choleric streak with increasing thin-skinnedness. When the management problems lead to significant friction losses and incorrect deliveries, the company parts ways with Karsten G. amicably after several "rescue attempts", fortunately for him with the assumption of the costs for the NewPlacement coaching.

Repositioning In the coaching we work through the leadership problems, but of course cannot "switch off" the choleric overreactions in the short term. Interviews fail at this point. After a good 3 months, we summarize our experiences so far. Karsten G. is naturally depressed. We consider a new positioning and/or a changed application strategy.

Business start-up "hobby to profession" In the process, we also like to play through "the impossible", e.g. the "unrealistic pipe dreams", which are often connected with intensive hobbies. Karsten G. is a passionate fisherman. Here the antipole to his choleric nature unfolds; here he finds inner peace. But how should his future profession develop from this? - Creative and positive solution thinking is required. Where is most fishing done in the surroundings of a big city today? - Of course at commercially operated fish ponds. What speaks against leasing such a facility? Thought - done. But Karsten G. was used to a different salary level. Only the fresh fish sales directly at the ponds could not close this gap. If not enough walk-in customers come to the ponds outside, the fish has to be brought fresh to the consumers. Today Karsten G. does not only run the leased pond, but also a well going fish shop in town, where at least trout, pike, carp, tench etc. are offered extremely fresh. His choleric nature has taken a back seat in this environment.

An extraordinary consulting case; but life offers such chances. You just have to let them.
