What exactly is the "covert job market"
These are jobs that are not publicly accessible, i.e. they are not usually to be found in job exchanges, as otherwise the requirements would have to be formulated in a very unfocused way to exclude conclusions.
Why is there a hidden market
Dissatisfaction with managers at levels 1 and 2 is often only in the minds of owners or controlling bodies or management/holding company. One does not want to have any unrest in the company and also no temporary vacancy on the position. Therefore, one usually has to search for a successor undercover with the help of a headhunter. Research, direct approach and the evaluation of unsolicited applications play an important role on the part of headhunters.
Where to find the positions for applicants
Usually a headhunter is hired to ensure that the circle of people involved remains as small as possible. Personal relationships with the client often play a decisive role. As a result, the hidden application market has become atomised. Theoretically, the "dream job" could be with any of the approximately 2,000 personnel consultancies in Germany. If one focuses, 2/3 remain, plus headhunters from Austria and Switzerland, who may be looking for a holding company from these countries. It is therefore good to have qualified access, to know the headhunters' requirements for information and documents and to know who to avoid. Otherwise you could entrust every headhunter in Germany with your documents.
Which rules should you follow
Applicants should not pressurize the headhunter about the company and details of the position. He usually has clear instructions that only short-listed candidates may receive further information. Under no circumstances should one visit, for example, the profiles of "predecessors" on XING and LinkedIn. The covert market places high demands on confidentiality for all parties involved. Anyone who does not meet these requirements disqualifies himself or herself.
