Born in Bocholt, Hubertus Babel was Boy Scout, a passionate track and field athlete, and handball and tennis player. Following his university entrance qualification and reserve officer training, he studied business administration and mechanical engineering in Karlsruhe. He interrupted his studies following the death of father to successfully reorganize his family’s business. After completing his degree in mechanical engineering, he was a university researcher and instructor while working on his doctoral degree and studying as well time and motion as welding engineering. He has had several overseas assignments in China, India, Turkey, and North and South America. He started his career as an assistant to the executive board and later became plant manager, director, head of business unit, and a member of the advisory and supervisory boards. He has served many years as a lay judge, he is a committed consultant and coach and passionate archer and golfer. Also he is a fan of Mediterranean and Asian cuisines.
